Woodchips Board Meeting
August 6,
2009
Don Schramski convened the meeting at 2:00p.m. Attendee’s included Phil Menser, Bill
VanOoyen, Val Podmolik, Bob Haughey, Gary Fox and one general member.
OLD BUSINESS
SECRETARY (Bob Haughey):
The minutes
from the July board meeting were reviewed and approved.
A schedule
of 2010 club meetings was presented and approved to be submitted to RMI for
scheduling. This includes a change from
prior years with regard to the timing of the Board Meetings. It was agreed to request these take place the
Monday prior to the Membership meetings (which will continue to be held on the
2nd Thursday of the month).
TREASURER (Bill Van Ooyen):
Bill
reported the checking account has a current balance of $8,747.15.
Projected Materials costs are $850, Accounts Receivable
total $1,440.00, Accounts Payable total $131.28, including a $2000.00 reserve.
MEMBERSHIP (Val Podmolik):
The club
has 180 members.
SAFETY (Phil Menser)
The Drum
Sander continues to experience excessive wear and related maintenance as a
result of users applying too much pressure during their sanding
operations.
The board discussed the SawStop safety
situation that occurred last month with the responsible member. He admitted to attempting to cut a board using
the miter gauge and the fence at the same time, without using a stop
block. The board jammed causing the brake
to activate and stop the blade. Since
this action is in direct violation of the safety requirements in Cluster #6, this
member’s Cluster #6 has been revoked and must be re-taken prior to him being
allowed to use the table saws again.
It was agreed that all members
who completed their Cluster #6 (Saws) training prior to January 23, 2008 will
have this cluster printed in PINK on their shop badges. Everyone in this status will be required to
take the SawStop training prior to being able to use these saws without Foreman
oversight. Members will be notified of
this during the August Membership meeting.
OPERATIONS (Don Schramski for Bob Tank)
The Club now has seven new instructors that teach the
various Safety Training Clusters: Bob Bishop, John Cochran, Forrest Fetherolf, Hardy
Green, Bill Hehn, Wayne Hitchcock and Bill VanOoyen. These volunteers are a great asset to the
successful operation of the club.
The club purchased a new Lathe
during the past month. In that the
procedures for operating it are essentially the same as those for the prior
lathe, there will be no additional training required to use it. All members who have taken the current lathe
clusters are welcome to use this new piece of equipment.
A new router table is being
evaluated for purchase. This is to
replace the current table which has consistently been troublesome and
inaccurate to adjust the cutting blade height.
The new table will accommodate the existing router.
It was recommended that we
consider replacing (or sharpening) our router bits. Furthermore it was recommended that we look
in to procuring some additional blade sets to give us more options for cutting
on the shaper.
It was recommended that we
purchase replacement blades for the Festool Miter Saw and table saws, as well
as a second blade for the Panel Saw.
The board has completed their
review of the usage of the shop on Wednesdays, which was appropriated to
current members who hold Monitor or Foreman Status. Subsequent to tracking sparse usage by these
individuals over the past four months, it has been decided to open Wednesdays
to all members.
An appreciation BBQ for Foremen
and Monitors will be held on Tuesday, October 13th, at the home of
Bill VanOoyen.
ONGOING PROJECTS (Gary Fox)
It was agreed that the September Board Meeting will be
held on Tuesday, September 8th at 2:00 p.m. in the Penn room.
The meeting adjourned at 3:20 p.m.
