nomination/voting process for 2011 Board members was reviewed.
OLD BUSINESS
Operations (Bill VanOoyen)
Bill
discussed the replacement of the belt sander and the purchase of an additional
small lathe. In addition, Ken Andersen
submitted a request for a Powermatic Edge Sander. The approximate cost of a new
Powermatic edge sander is $5100. The
board will review other edge sanders and when they arrive at a consensus they
will ask the members to approve an appropriate edge
sander expenditure. The cost of the lathe
and belt sander will be discussed at the September Board meeting.
Bill
discussed the club holiday project. The
board will ask members for suggestions for a toy and a member volunteer to run
the project.
Shop Projects (Forrest Fetherolf)
Forrest
informed the board there have been 30 completed projects by Woodchips this year
to date. There is one project currently being worked on in the shop with two
outstanding requests for quotes.
Forrest
discussed the shop insulation project.
Woodchips is waiting for RMI Facilities to secure a bid following the
December 2009 removal of the ceiling insulation.
NEW BUSINESS
Safety
Recently,
a Saw Stop cartridge was activated by a member.
The member may have touched his steel tape measure to the blade before it
had stopped rotating; a direct violation of the safety requirements is cluster
#6. The member will meet with the board
and an appropriate course of action will be decided upon.
Forrest
reviewed the proposed shop addition package that was submitted to RMI on July
21, 2010. It includes a proposed 1316 sq
ft westerly addition that would cost about $88,000.00. The package is currently being reviewed by
P&G, Finance and Lifestyles. If
approved by all three committees it will be placed on the SCA Board agenda for
approval as part of the next annual budget.
Bill
reminded the board that all members must receive pre-authorization from two
club officers for any items they intend to purchase for the club below $500.00 using
the Authorization for Expenditure form on our website.
The board
reiterated the requirement that all new members must take the shop orientation
class within 60 days of joining the club. However, all members who joined the
club before July 1, 2010 will be given credit for the class.
Don
reminded everyone present the revised Shop Manual has been posted on our
website. All members, but especially
board members, should be familiar with the contents of the Shop Manual and our
Bylaws.
The
