Van Ooyen convened the meeting at 9:00 a.m. Attendees included Forrest
Fetherolf, Scott Sturman, Dan McLean, Grant Lewis, Dave Sears and Dick Hollis.
Secretary (Dick Hollis)
The
minutes from the September board meeting were reviewed and approved.
Treasurer (Grant Lewis)
Grant
informed the board that Woodchips current balance as of October 1st is
$17,797.10, including $2,000 in reserve. Grant reported that there have been 28
responses to date for the Holiday Party
Membership (Dan McLean))
Woodchips
currently has 177 members. Three new members have joined Woodchips since our
last meeting in September. The membership includes 41 Foremen (14 are also
Monitors) and 30 Monitors. Dan reported that members used the shop on 534 occasions
in the month of September.
OLD BUSINESS
Operations (Scott Sturman)
Scott
informed the board that a new dado set is available to be used while the
permanent dado set is sharpened.
A
discussion was held regarding the damage to a belt on the wide belt sander and
the discharge of a saw stop cartridge. The outcome determined that Scott
Sturman would decide the level of responsibility of the member and recommend
appropriate action for reimbursement of the belt and cartridge at the next
board meeting.
Safety (Dave Sears)
Shop Projects (Forrest Fetherolf)
Forrest
informed the board there have been 50 projects completed so far this year and one project currently in production.
Holiday Toy Project (Bill VanOoyen)
Bill
reported that the Holiday Toy Projects are on schedule according to Marcia
Goldstein and Eckhard Fadtke.
2012 Board Nominations (Bill VanOoyen)
Bill
reported that Bob Bishop and Gary Coreliss are the only additional nominees for
upcoming board positions for 2012. Nominations shall remain open until the next
General Meeting when a vote will be taken to elect a new board for 2012.
Reserve Account
Setup and Funding (Grant Lewis)
Grant
recommended a new Reserve Account be opened and funded with a minimum of $5,000
to the General Members. The fund will establish a new account approved by the
SCA Board to set aside funds for the replacement and repair of major equipment.
The Woodchips Board unanimously approved the recommendation.
Improvements to
Dust Collector
(Bill VanOoyen)
Bill
reported that the improvements to the dust collector system have achieved a
definite improvement on cutting down the noise in the shop. According to Bill
the sound power emitted from the dust collector has been reduced from 94 decibels
to 68 decibels.
NEW BUSINESS
Shop Projects and
Impact on Members
(Bill VanOoyen)
Bill
informed the board that it appears that the quantity of shop projects are
affecting the use of the shop by General Members. Forrest disputed this claim
and further explained that he monitors the construction of shop projects and
ensures that no member is negatively impacted. Forrest also informed the board
that he has not arranged for additional projects lately due to the impact of
the Holiday Project schedule. No further action was recommended.
Oktoberfest (Scott Sturman)
It
was agreed that Dick Hollis would send out a reminder to all Foreman and Monitors
of the upcoming party to be held at Bob Tank’s home.
Sales and Use Tax (Bill Van Ooyen)
Bill
informed the board of the current ruling by the SCA Board that it is necessary
to submit quarterly use taxes on behalf of Woodchips. The mount results in less
than $100.
